Introduction to ABB Incentive System
The Excitation System is a crucial component of the generator system, used to provide DC excitation current to the field winding of synchronous generators, thereby controlling the output voltage of the generator, responding to load changes, and maintaining system stability.
Main components and functions
Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR): Automatically adjusts the excitation current to maintain stable output voltage of the generator;
Excitation Transformer/Excitation Transformer: Convert the system voltage to a voltage level suitable for use in the excitation circuit;
Rectifiers/Exciters: convert AC excitation or excitation power supply into DC excitation;
Trigger/control module: controls the power semiconductors (such as SCR, IGBT, etc.) in the rectifier, and adjusts the excitation current according to the instructions of AVR;
Protection and monitoring device: monitors temperature, voltage, current, and out of step status to prevent generator failure caused by abnormal excitation system.
Highlights of ABB’s product line in incentive systems
UNITROL ® Series: ABB’s representative excitation system product line, including multiple models (such as UNITROL 1000, UNITROL 5000, UNITROL 6000, etc.), covering excitation needs from small synchronous machines to large power plants;
These systems support automatic voltage regulation, grid stability control (such as grid code requirements), redundant configuration, communication interfaces, and high reliability design;
Especially suitable for power plants (thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, gas turbines, etc.), backup power generation systems, and other environments.
